Richard C. Johnston, MD, FACP
Chief Executive Officer and Chief Physician Officer
Richard Johnston is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine. He graduated from Texas Tech University School of Medicine in 1975. He completed an internal medicine residency at Austin Breckenridge Hospital, and began his practice in Dallas in 1978.
In 2004, Johnston's group joined Medical Clinic of North Texas (MCNT), a predominantly primary care health care group of 135 providers. In 2006, he became president of MCNT. He served in that role until the 2012 merger that created USMD Health System.
Johnston continues to practice internal medicine in Las Colinas. He is a member of the American College of Physicians, Texas Medical Association, and the Dallas County Medical Society. He serves on the American Medical Group Association CEO Council.

Mary McDonald
Chief Information Officer
Mary McDonald serves as chief information officer at USMD Health System. In this role, Mrs. McDonald oversees all operational aspects and functions of the IT Department. Before joining USMD Mary served 30 years in various positions. These positions ranged from roles in IT to roles on different business teams within UnitedHealthGroup.
Mrs. McDonald always knew she wanted to work in health care because she wanted to make sure her work mattered and made a difference to others. In high school, she pictured herself as a physical therapist, but later found a love for the operational side of health care. She was fascinated by the level of impact she could make on people’s lives by working behind the scenes to help make the health system work better for everyone.
Mrs. McDonald’s favorite part of the job has been the same since she started, she loves interacting with the people she works with, whether those are customers or colleagues. Currently, she lives in Shakopee, Minnesota, with her husband, Tom. She has two stepdaughters and five beautiful grandchildren. In her free time, she enjoys coaching girls volleyball with her husband, which they’ve been doing for over a decade!

Karen Wagner
Corporate Compliance Officer
Karen Wagner has held multiple senior leadership positions in the health care industry over the last 20 years. She has experience in financial, quality, health information and risk management, information privacy and security, and compliance.
Wagner served on the American Health Information Management Association Compliance Task Force in the late 1990s. The task force gained national recognition for its compliance program guide. She has also helped multiple groups create effective compliance programs.
Wagner is certified in Healthcare Compliance (CHC) by the Health Care Compliance Association (HCCA). She is a member of the HCCA and the North Texas Healthcare Compliance Professionals Association.
Wagner has a master's degree in business administration with a health care focus from Concordia University.
